How it all began...

Sweetie (Siberian) definitely remembers his galpal Ellie (black) from previous visits... This is just a sampling of what they get up to together, daily.... It all started out with the 2 of them sitting quietly beside each other in the spaceship, not far from this airplane.... This, was followed by a relay-race of sorts across the room, up and down a few flights of 'cat' stairs and back up, into the airplane again.....

It's hard to keep score....

Needless to say, they slept well in the afternoon!

As the two-legged's head to Mexico.....

It is countdown at the Pet B&B..... as anticipation mounts for the start of March Break!!

(Left) Sweetie (Siberian) knows that his Christmas buddies Tookie, Felix and Winnie come back in today.... so, he's trying to catch up a few zzz's before they show....
When this little guy is tired... there is no keeping his eyes open!

(Left) Caruso hopes that mom is enjoying her time in Cuba with her students.... He's meeting lots of new friends, back here, in Canada.

(Left) Wally Wally Waldo, or just Waldo, which is actually his name (black/white), always picks his black/white cat bed to stretch out on.... He is another gentle giant... he turns into a 4 month old kitten as soon as he passes through our doors.... so much fun to see adult cats do that!

(Left) Peanut.... or Peanut Pie, as I always call him, just arrived last evening.... We saw him at Christmas too.... He will remember many a furry face from then and his previous visits....

What is on Lincoln's mind?

Q. I was contacted by one of our customers. I had previously spoke with her older female cat Sophie (posted Friday Jan 9/09). The family found a new little brother for Sophie. He came with the name Lincoln. The lady was having difficulty getting used to this name for him. She disliked even more that her husband had started calling him Linky.... she, herself, was leaning towards the name Simon for him. She also mentioned that Sophie wasn't much liking all of the attention from her new little brother (who had already surpassed her in size)... even though he just wanted to play with her...

A. Now, keep in mind that I have spoken with a good many animals in the 3+ years that I've been doing this. I've always found it important to keep an open mind and to never assume that I know what the animal is going to say.... That being said... sometimes, they make my jaw drop by what they do say! Now, keep in mind that Lincoln is only about 8 months old.... and, you'll get an idea of an animal's version of 'reality'.... a reality that would seem very foreign to most of us... but, for them, is commonplace.

Lincoln wasn't that keen to speak with me. I did a bit of small talk with him. I wasn't hearing him particularly well. He told me that I was smiling and what I was wearing... so, I knew we had 'connected' well enough... He wasn't that enthusiastic about talking about himself or his sister... It wasn't until we got to the topic of 'names' that he really perked up.... Hang onto your girdle... you won't see this one coming!

He said he liked his sister. 'She's alright, not bad, fine'. Described her as 'big heart, fat head, fuss pot'. Described himself as 'handsome, debonaire, big heart, made to run, fast talker. I asked about the last one..'love to converse'. I asked him who he converses with? Her mostly... his sister.

Asked whether he likes his name Lincoln? 'It's alright, it's a respectable name, smart thinker name'. He liked the name 'Linky' saying 'it's cute, it's comical, it's practical'. I asked him to explain 'practical'... he said 'nice, short, concise name'. He didn't really like the name Simon, saying 'not smart, too common, nothing special there'.

I asked which names he'd prefer? 'Theodore, Teddy Roosevelt'. Why did he like that name? 'Distinguished, smart, implies something'... implies what? 'something smarter, unique, unusual, uncommon'.

Other names? 'Jimmy Carter'. Why? 'Sounds great, means something'. What does it mean? 'leading figure, importance, acceptance'. I asked if he knew who Jimmy Carter was? 'Yes, exceptional man'. Did you know him? 'Yes'. How? 'Incarnate, was with him'. When? '50's'. What color were you that time? 'brown mostly, some white, speckled, spotted'. What did he call you in that life? 'life friend'. Did he have another name for you? 'Marty' (Sounded like Marty.. that was as close as I could make out). Why were you in his life that time? 'help him through it.' What? 'life with dad, the loss, the heartache'.

I asked about other names that he may like now? 'Scottie'. Why? unfamiliar, stands out rather well'. Does it remind you of anyone? 'Scott Klassen, go for gold'. (Not sure if I spelled that right?) He also liked the name Barnaby, saying that it was 'strong, powerful'.

I asked if he liked his big sister? 'She's alright'. What do you say to her? 'Lets play, go outside, climb, chase after me'. What does Sophie say to you? 'Buzz off, go away, don't want to play with you.' Does she like you? 'Not bad. She'll come around.'

Do you like Sophie? ' not bad, could be better.' What would you change about her if you could? 'not such a girly-girl, a little bit tougher'.

When asked if he wanted to ask me anything? 'Where are you?'. Told him I was at home. Why? 'Cats everywhere!'. ( I have 4 cats at home. I usually do my animal chats in front of my woodstove and they usually pile on the sofas not far away.'

I asked if he knew Teddy Roosevelt? 'Yes'. What did he think of him? 'big man, not much of a talker, a quiet man'. I asked what he thought of Jimmy Carter? 'Exceptional man, extra-ordinary man'. What made him think so? 'Big man, big heart, big home.'

(Now... as interesting as this all is... keep in mind that little Lincoln is only about 8 months old... currently). I think it's the first time that an animal has given me a first & family name... they usually just give a first name.

The RSVP's are pouring in....

(Left) Big cutie Suzie Q (tortoise shell on top bunk) will be staying with us a few months... while Gingko (solid black), who has been visiting for many weeks, will return home shortly.... Both of them do great when they're in...

(Left) There's our boy Friskie again (black/white Maine Coon).... this time he's relaxing in the 'space rocket'.... Simon (orange/white) popped his head in to see how Friskie was doing.... 'Everything good in here?' All clear for take-off!

(Left) Gunther (dark tabby) is having a little 'Zen' moment... deep in thought or meditation..... He has got some of the biggest toes that we've ever seen on a kitty' ... big cutie.. like his brother Moe...

(Left) Ellie (solid black) has been visiting us for about a year & a half now... She'll be moving back to the US with her mom, at the start of the summer.... She's one that loves to play with the kittens.... She's pleased that Sweetie has just returned... and, oh no... Winnie & Felix are coming back in this weekend too... You may recognize those combinations from our Christmas pictures.... The party is at the Pet B&B this weekend!!!

A fond farewell .....

(Left) Gorgeous little Pheobe reclines on a big stack of our small rugs & pillows.... She visits us with her brother Simon, who you saw a few days ago... Both cats are adorable albeit, completely different personalities...

(Left) Little cutie Moe gives me 'the look', in between chats... He's visiting us again with his big brother Gunther.... They both have such unusual voices... or, should I say, accents?

(Left) Yes, we had lots of kitties over the weekend... On top of the tractor, we have orange & white Kissa... On the floor, on the right side, we have Heflin (orange & white medium hair). In front of the tractor, on the floor, is Abraham... never far from the fun, or the camera... On the floor, to the left of the tractor, we have Caruso.... We did actually have many girls in too.... I think they were slumbering up in the bunk beds already... prepping for a snooze..

(Left) Our girl Abby & her mom are moving to Northern Ontario this week... Abby comes to visit us from Arnprior throughout the year... We're very sad to see them move far away but wish them all the best in their big adventures.... All the best with the new job Susan! I know your mom is very pleased that you're moving closer to her...

Monday morning... we say Au Revoir to a few of our friends...

(Left) Is it Life imitating Art or Art imitating Life? You decide!
Kashmir (white - the live version) hangs out with his younger brother Petit Loup (little wolf)... The two brothers have been visiting us for about 4 years now... And, our white kitty in the picture has been resident with us about 5 years now!

(Left) Our girl Carrie (calico) suntans herself Sunday morning... She loves my little Herbie cars... parked in front of our big sunny windows... Her younger sister CashCash(calico) is the wide eyed 'half' kitty below....
Their dad thought Cash & Carrie would be cute names for the girls....

Little CashCash (Left) could've been called CacheCache (Hide & Seek) when she was a kitten.... You could usually find her, but catching her when mom would come to pick them up, in this large, wide open space, was another story!

But, she's all growed up now! Not nearly as tricky to catch or play with... She will actually come and look for cuddles if there aren't strange people around...
(Above) Here, 'whole' CashCash, shares a bunk bed with big handsome Cisco...(dark tabby)

Some of my old friends...

I'm sure we all can't believe how fast time goes..... I'm starting my 8th year in business at the Pet B&B.... sometimes, I pick up a cat's file and am shocked to realize that they have been coming in for 6 or 7 years already.... and it felt like 2 or 3!

(Above) Lionel (dark tabby) is a relatively recent friend of the B&B... He's been coming in about 3 years.... He's turned into quite the gentle giant...

(Left) Tigger (dark tabby) has been visiting us for about 5 years.... Here, she's being a ham for dad!

(Left) Palinka (solid black) hasn't been in for a while, but I'm guessing that I've known him and his sister Pogi about 6, if not 7 years... I met their dad early on when I first opened the B&B.

(Left) Our girl Cookie (muted tortoise shell) has been coming in about 4 years I think.... Here, I caught her half asleep ... one eye open!

I get so many young kittens that board with us... It's always fun to see them grow up and grow into their distinct personalities...

TGIWeekend.... We can stay up all night!!

(Left) Yes, that's our girl Lily (dark tabby) back again.... Caruso (solid black) is back too... Their paths didn't cross earlier this year when they were both in.... missed each other by a couple of weeks... but they did and do have the same idea today.... Come here Mr. BigBird... Come here....

(Left) As we left off earlier this week.... Lady (grey/white) has decided that Pegu's pillow is big enough for the two of them... they're so cute together...

(Left) Bella (dark tabby) went home a short while ago... but I didn't remember to put this cute picture of her up earlier... better late than never.... She was a gorgeous little schmoozie one!

(Left) Simon says.... Simon says... Simon says.... Now I know where they got that expression.... Few kitties can keep up with his constant conversation.... Yup, he's a chatty little lad... and adorable...that goes without saying...He's in with his sister Pheobe again ...

How to pass the time away while on vacation...

(Left) Ti-Min demonstrates the new yoga pose that he learned while at the Pet B&B this visit... I'm sure he'll teach his sister Catou later this week..

(Left) Moxie gets all 'tactile' with his food groups... I've never seen him do this before in all of the years that he's been coming in.. Then, he licks the food off of his paw... Ah, yes... good to the last drop!

(Left) Some days you just want to stay under the covers where it's all toasty cozy and watch a good movie... or... live entertainment... That's our Mindy (grey/white). I always say he's part ferret... loves to burrow when he's in... On the Purrcy bunk below, we have another adorable kitty, Cisco... He's a big schmooze, like most all male dark tabbies are.. You would never know this was his first visit..

Oh, Mousie in the Balloon... in the Housie..... You just need to let your hair down once and awhile and reellaaaxx... She knows I'm joking... That is one crazy little kitty...

Prepping for the weekend festivities...

(Left) Our new friend Lady (grey/white) sits in the window while her new acquaintence Marcel walks by and says Hi.... Meanwhile, her charming little admirer Pegu, munches away ... not far from her... You will see that those two are a recurring theme... they are usually found near each other...

(Left) Our handsome boy Friskie (black/white) in the lower deck of the pirate boat watches the waves and kitties go by... while, Mousie in the Housie... as I refer to her... uptop... gets all goofie like hamming it for the camera...

(Left) We have many outdoor kitties this week... Kissa (orange/white) on top of the tractor, Simon (light orange/white) on floor at front of tractor, Carrie (calico) on the hay bails, and Joya (dark tabby) in the rear sitting on the bunk beds.... all meet Caramel (dark tabby) on the floor for the first time... Introductions & Hi 5's all around!

This picture makes me think of a 'cops & robbers' movie... Abraham is hanging on to the Herbie car pretty solidly.... it's one of his favorite poses and spots to soak up the rays.... Maybe I should put a little engine into one of those cars... I'm guessing he'd probably still do this!

R&R&R.... Rest, Relaxation & Recreation!

(Left) Abraham (dark tabby) has a little tete-a-tete with BigBird1... 'He still refuses to let me visit him inside of his home'!

(Right) Ti-Min (grey & white tabby) preps himself for a little siesta.... in one of his favorite hang-outs... inside of the tractor..

(Left) Angus (black on top bunk) has the best view of all... smack in the middle of the room, he can see what transpires in all three directions... On the second bunk bed, Gingko (black) relaxes in one of her favorite spots, usually lying up against my big chunk of Selenite (white stone)... It's a very calming stone... On the bottom bunk bed, lies Squeak... (dark tabby & white)... That isn't one of his favorite spots...We usually find him driving the tractor or in one of my Herbie cars in front of the sunny window...

(Left) Clara (black&white) has been visiting us for a number of years, with her sister Alice... You can't see Alice right now, but she is sleeping on a pillow in the lower front part of the car... It's strange to see them hang out so closely together... That is not a usual sleeping spot for Alice... She prefers the rocket ship or phone booths....I'm all for breaking with routine.... change is good!

A little peace and quiet time to recharge...

(Left) Joya (dark tabby) returned this week... She visited us around Christmas time... nice to see her again...

(Above right) Tiny (grey tabby) returned this week as well... He's a big little cutie... resting in one of his favorite spots... atop the loft..

(Left) Spartacat enjoyed the wagon load of haybails... those wooden corners make excellent neck scratchers... as he discovered...

(Left) Oh, oh.. Looks like mr. Pegu (chocolate Burmese) has discovered Marcel's favorite treehouse... That's ok... we're all about sharing around here... I wouldn't be surprised to find them both together in this one, in another weeks time..
